Lincolnshire Chess Association

Midlands Championships 2015

Report from Keith Palmer

Thank you to our teams and supporters for their hard work and commitment at Nottingham. It was a hugely rewarding and enjoyable day, I think, for all who took part. The day seemed to whiz past, so I'm sorry if I didn't manage to say hello! I did spend much of the time in the tournament hall and was very impressed with the high level of chess played by our juniors. The Under 11's challenged hard against possibly 2 of the most experienced counties in the country and in many cases only lost out be the narrowest of margins. Our Girls are very young with many able to represent Lincolnshire over another two seasons and show great promise for the future. Meanwhile, our Under 9's had probably the most difficult tournament and despite superb efforts found points hard to come by. As many will move up into the Under 11 section next year, we do need to continue to promote and develop chess skills in our very youngest juniors so that we can compete against our very organised neighbours.
