The Lincolnshire County Championships took place at Sibsey Free Primary School on Saturday 12th July. It was a successful and enjoyable event for all involved. The champions are as follows:

The Gigafinal held in Manchester on the 5-6th July was well represented from Lincolnshire schools. There were 33 lincs players who took part of which 7 qualified for the plate competition, 2 qualified for the challengers and 1 qualified for the Terafinal. Full Results
Lisle Marsden's chess teams had an excellent performance at the teams championships at Pontins, Prestatyn. They were up against schools from across the country. Full Results
The Lincolnshire County Championships is being held at Sibsey Free Primary School (close to Boston) on Saturday 12th July. It is a six round tournament with two sections, for both experienced and new chess players. A range of prizes and trophies are up to compete for in each age group (u8, u9, u10 and u11). An entry form can be downloaded for this event.
The U18 Tournament will be held at The Atrium, Lindum Business Park on Saturday 19th July alongside the Lincolnshire County Championship. It is a 6 round swiss tournament with players each getting 25 minutes on the clock. The tournament is open to all pupils at Lincolnshire Schools aged 11-18 on 1 September 2013. The Lincolnshire Megafinal stage of the UK Chess Challenge was held at Fosse Way Academy in North Hykeham on Saturday 3rd May. Over 100 Lincolnshire juniors took part in the competition and 38 of those players qualify for the Gigafinal stage. Full results
Amy Milson won the event with a score of 5½/6, a full point ahead of her nearest competitors. Will Taylor and Neelay Sant came equal second on 4½/6. Full results

These junior events are 6 round swiss tournaments open to all children U13 & U130 grade. All the dates are on Sundays from 11am until 6pm. Chess training is provided in-between games and throughout the day. The entry fee is £20. An entry form is available to download.
The Louth Junior Quickplay tournament will be held on Saturday 26th April at St James' Church House in Louth. It is a 6 round tournament with each player having 25 minutes on the clock and is open to Lincolnshire players who are under 18. An entry form is available to download.
The Under 11 Team finished in a very creditable 3rd place. The Under 11 Girls Team also finished in 3rd place. The Under 9 Team were in a tough section and finished in 6th place. Full results.
Congratulations to Lisle Marsden Academy for qualifying for the semi-finals of this national event at the Manchester zonal on Saturday 8th February.

As you can see, Lisle could not quite match the Bolton Boys teams, but 2nd place was an excellent effort and sufficient to progress to the weekend semi-final event at Prestatyn in June.
Many Lincolnshire Schools will have started the first in-school rounds of this popular competition. Louth Chess Club will be holding theirs on 4th, 11th and 18 March if any Under 18's would like to take part there. The regional zone has changed venue this year and will be held at Fosse Way Academy, Ash Grove, North Hykeham Lincoln, Lincolnshire LN6 8DU on Saturday 3rd May.
Keith Palmer will be ordering Lincolnshire sweatshirts on Monday 17th February ready for distribution at the Midlands event. They come in 3 sizes, 7-8, 9-11 and 12-13 and cost just £10.00 each. If you would like one ordered please email your details and you can pay at the Midlands event. The shirts are in bottle green. At one time we used to insist that all team members wore one, but since we only play one event per year this is no longer the case. They do, however look very smart and can be used at other events or for casual wear.
The next EMC Junior Academy event will be on Sunday 16 Feb at Risley in Derbyshire. It is a 6 round swiss and is open to all juniors U13 and U130 grade. An entry form is available to download. Further events have been booked at Risley on 25 May, 8 Jun and 13 Jul.
The Leicestershire Junior Chess Tournament will be held on Saturday 25th January at Loughborough Grammar School. It is a 6 round rapidplay event for players under 18. An entry form is available to download.

The ECF invite all girls to take part in the English Girls' Championships on Saturday, 30 November, at Nottingham High School.

A Lincolnshire Festival of Chess event for U11 and U9 will be held at Stamford Junior School on Saturday 23rd Nov 2013. An entry form is available to download.
The North Lincolnshire Individual Chess Championships will be held at Lisle Marsden Primary Academy, Grimsby on Saturday 9th November. It is a 6 round tournament for both experienced and new chess players. An entry form is available to download.
East Midlands Chess are holding a junior chess training tournament at Bramcote, Nottingham on Sunday 20th October. This tournament is for children under 13 and with an U130 grade, and includes a 6 round swiss event with training in-between matches. An entry form is available to download.
A training event was recently held at Kirkby-on-Bain Primary School for under 9 and under 11 chess players. The day began with 3 quick 10 minute games which was then followed by some training sessions. In the afternoon there were consultation matches which was then finished with a 15 minute match. All entrants received a medal from the school headteacher before departing home. Read the full report.
Here are some U11 junior events coming up this season:
The first junior event of the season is a training match at Kirkby-on-Bain Primary School on Saturday 5th October. The day will comprise of a combination of competitive games and demonstrations of chess theory and practice. Further details are available to download.
East Midlands Chess are running a junior training tournament on Sunday 22nd September at Risley, Derby. The 6 round swiss tournament is open to all children U13 and U130 grade. There is a mixture of competition and training. An entry form is available to download.
The winner of the U18 tournament held in Lincoln on 20th July was Callum Foard (Carres) with a score of 5/6. Callum won a 5 minute blitz play-off against Ernestas Jackevic (Spalding) who also finished on 5/6. View results
The U18 tournaments have now finished and the winner of the Grand Prix (highest total over year) is Neelay Sant (Boston) with 16 points. View final leaderboard.
Lisle Marsden Primary Academy from Grimsby were the only Lincolnshire School to qualify for the National Teams Championships this year. The event took place at Pontins, Prestatyn in North Wales. The Under 11 A team finished 14th out of 30 teams. The Under 11 B team struggled and finished in last place but they did gain much valuable experience.
